This time it's about the sound of filippo artists and productions from the 70s and 80s. The USA's years of control are also reflected in the sound. This one is very American-oriented. That's why my selection of songs mostly consists of soul, disco, jazz and yacht rock. Most of the songs were recorded in the capital Manila and there are some real gems among them. If you want, you are welcome to take a musical journey with me into the seventies and eighties of the South Asian country. Have fun!

Olongapo, Philippines in the Mid-1970s

Tracklist

Rico J. The majority of the songs were also recorded there. But there are also some that were created with the support of the best studio musicians in California. As always, there is the whole spectrum of Yacht Rock. Blue eyed soul, groovy soft rock, a little with a jazz or disco touch and of course some Adult Oriented Rock (AOR) in softer style. This series stands more for the soft disco sounds and less for the big disco hits of the seventies. This time there are some songs by real jazz artists who, like so many back then, jumped on the disco bandwagon but still didn't sell their jazz gene. Such as: Ramsey Lewis and Hank Crawford. It gets a little cheesy with Patrick Norman and the Barry Manilow cover "Could It Be Magic" by Dante's Inferno, a big hit by Take That in the 90s. Harold Melvin gives us one of the first epic disco songs in a wonderful Philly guise. Since the carnival was just taking place, I brought Fantasia with me and at the end you will find a version of the Boney M classic "Daddy Cool" by one of the greatest German composers and orchestra leader Peter Thomas as a tribute to Frank Farian, who unfortunately passed away on January 23rd, 2024.

Tracklist

Ramsey Lewis - Dancin' (1979)
Hamilton Bohannon - Andrea (1977)
Fantasia Featuring Peggy Santiglia - Fantasia / Carnival (1978)
Dante's Inferno - Could It Be Magic (1979)
New York Disco Orchestra - Reverie (1978)
Hank Crawford - I Hear A Symphony (1975)
Ramsey & Company - Love Call (1979)
Patrick Norman - Let's Try Once Again (1978)
Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes - The Love I Lost (1973)
Shaw - Surrey With The Fringe On Top (1976)
Orchestra Silvano Chimenti - Happy California (1980)
Elio Dante & Cashmere - Give Me Love (Instrumental) (1977)
Sergio Franchi - More (Theme From Mondo Cane) (1979)
Günter Gollasch - Sylvia (Disco Version) (1978)
Peter Thomas Orchestra - Daddy Cool (1977)

Rumpelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09862821187685208728noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2722426183258980347.post-21146184867351705912024-02-10T03:58:00.000-08:002024-02-10T03:59:23.494-08:00AOR & Blue-Eyed Soul Session Vol.36 - Groovy Yacht Rock - Extra Soft And Mellow

Anyone who has listened to this series carefully knows that there is often a passage with love songs in the second half. I would always love to dance to it and hope you feel the same. My selection includes different styles, sometimes classic disco, sometimes boogie, sometimes disco soul and even a little funk can be found. There will also be a reunion of two of the most successful Philly artists (The O'Jays, The Trammps) of the seventies with the sound of 1983. It's very rare that I like a cover version better than the original. “Up On The Hill” by The Trammps is one such example. This song was previously released by Dunn & Bruce Street on their album “Official Business” in 1982. The original version is also very good, but the Trammps' version, which was only released as a 12-inch, is outstanding. You can't do a better disco-funk song. A real dance floor burner.

Tracklist

Chaka Khan - Ain't Nobody
Jesse Franklin - Don't Turn Your Back On Love
Leon Haywood - Im Out To Catch
Glenn Jones - I Am Somebody
Richard Jon Smith - She's The Master Of The Game
The Band A.K.A. - Joy
Yarbrough & Peoples - Heartbeats
Lionel Richie - Running With The Night
Kenny James - Can't Keep Holdin' On
The O'Jays - Put Our Heads Together
The Trammps - Up On The Hill
George Duke - Reach Out
Oliver Cheatham - Get Down Saturday Night

Rumpelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09862821187685208728noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2722426183258980347.post-16527242264654011592024-01-27T04:00:00.000-08:002024-01-27T04:00:43.711-08:00Dusty Groovin' #4

Not everything is rare, but my selection consists of rarely heard or somewhat dusty songs from the seventies. I have put together a eclectic show for you that not only follows one genre but also reflects many facets of the seventies. There are funk, soul, Jazz-Funk, Soft Disco and some songs that are difficult to classify, always with a certain groove or even a little touch of psychedelic mood. The Wah Wah cover of the Bob Marley song "Get Up Stand Up" by the English group "The Checkers" is interesting - what a groove.

My first Producers Special was created in 2015. Now there are the finest electro sounds paired with the typical old school raps. This is the second phase of old-school rap, when it became more electronic, with songs around 1984, at the height of breakdancing. Some of them showed up a little early. But it's also perfect for the B-Boys as it's full of electro and funk beats. Have fun with my selection and enjoy the journey back to the 80s.

Tracklist

Lil' Jazzy Jay & Cool Supreme - B-Boys Style (1985)
Rusty P & The Sure Shot 3 - Breakdown New York Style (1984)
Aural Exciters - Chinese Rap (1982)
Imperial Brothers - We Come To Rock (1984)
Magic Mike Crew - Magic Mike Theme (1983)
M.C. Mainly from 2023 and today with a lot of synthetic sounds in the 80s style, but also some nice urban grooves. The show begins with a wonderful song by BJ The Chicago Kid together with Philip Bailey from Earth Wind & Fire. Also featuring brand new stuff from Con Funk Shun, Stephanie Mills, Will Downing and Incognito, but I also give many young musicians a chance again. That's why I've put together a little insight into her wonderful work on the microphone at the end of the year. Since it wasn't intended to be the "Best Of" of their four top-notch albums on Philadelphia International Records, I mainly chose songs that they sang for other artists. The focus is more on the lead vocals, of course there are countless recordings where they were used as background singers. There are also two singles from the early years when they were still under contract in Detroit and a song by Shirley Jones from her solo LP where her sisters can also be heard.

Tracklist

The Jones Girls - We're A Melody (1979)
Michael Pedicin Jr. - You (1979)
Dexter Wansel - The Sweetest Pain (1979)
Brass Fever - Time Is Running Out (1976)
Nndugu & The Chocolate Jam Co. - Give Your Love (1980)
The Jones Girls - If You Don't Love Me No More (1974)
Norman Connors - Disco Land (1979)
Le Pamplemousse - Le Spank (1977)
Noel Pointer - Feel It (1979)
Shirley Jones - Do You Get Enough Love (1986)
The Jones Girls - You're The Only Bargain I've Got (1972)

Rumpelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09862821187685208728noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2722426183258980347.post-18192358224304048352023-12-23T04:04:00.000-08:002023-12-23T04:04:47.553-08:00No Bad Vibes!

I have a gift for you. It is only logical to integrate the best yacht rock and yacht soul songs into this series. They are first-class produced and played songs that don't have to hide from the role models from the USA. Quite the opposite. With a little help such as on Kazu Matsui from American musicians like Phillip Ingram, Robben Ford and Tom Scott, but especially from really highly talented Japanese musicians, so much brilliant music was created in the seventies and eighties. Nowadays this music is often referred to as J-Pop or City Pop. I don't know where the term comes from. When I listen to the songs I can't see anything that reminds me of pop music. It sounds much more like soul and a bit of rock with jazzy and funky elements - like Yacht Rock. Maybe one of you can explain to me where these terms come from? Btw - there are also two songs to hear that weren't in my Japanese series. Check out my Playlist "Countries" There is enough music from many countries around the world, including my shows from Japan. He is a real workaholic. I loved the songs of his band Chic, and still love them. His productions in the late 1970s and 1980s also had a lasting impact on the music world. So much good music that Nile Rodgers created together with his congenial partner and bassist Bernard Edwards. After the death of Bernard Edwards in 1996, Nile Rodgers became somewhat quiet. It's all the more amazing how he came back. He has teamed up with many young artists from all over the world and has continued to create a lot of new music. Some old friends are back with on board too. I have now put together some of them tracks for you. Just like in the seventies, everything revolves around very danceable sounds. Not all is my cup of tea, but you will find some nice Nu-Disco tracks. You will always hear his distinctive lead guitar. :)

Tracklist

Daft Punk Feat. Unfortunately, the song selection was inappropriate and that's why I created it according to my taste. Now I've done the same with the sequel "Disco '81". I didn't go into much depth like I usually do. There are a number of very well-known songs here that we all like so much. I would always want to dance to it and I hope you feel the same way.

Tracklist

Klique - I Think You Know
B.B. & Q.
